Daughter of the sun,
A warrior in my facade and a dancer in my heart
With clothes shinier than gold and with a soul braver than loads
I fight for Bunderkhand, for my people,
I dance in the court alongside my people.
I am Mastani,
Deewani Mastani or so they call
Before him, I knew my goal
To fight and live and die alone
But now he showed up
And my heart became too drunk
With the nectar of passion,
The purest and most beautiful of ones.
As he helped me save my people,
I danced for him on Holi
The grandest dances one could do with jolly.
The peacocks spread their wings, they started to sing
And me in the centre danced, and danced, and danced
I sang mohe rang do laal
And danced to the beats of the rang
He said that I am so gratious
That even he shall fall for me.
Rao, that was is name
And I was to become his flame
He went back to his kindom and I followed him,
Making my apperance with a hymn
One of love and one of passion.
As he waited on his throne,
I appeared in golden hues
Mesmerizing the room, and him to the bone.
The all said Apsara aali, Apsara aali
The dancer that graced the court of the Marathi.
I swayed and spinned with gracious moves
My persian beauty that grooves.
In his heart a home to live,
And for it to give,
A place for me to sing and dance,
Even if it beats to someone else.
I stayed in court and confessed my love
Before his family sent me like a caged dove.
And he came for me under the rain,
And married me without regarding,
His wife devouted heart
And her innocent pain.
I, too, became his lover
Living in a grand palace
With his heart on my shoulder
And with his touch on my face.
Kashibai has greeted us
Not as a friend but as a duty
She belittled me for marrying her soul
And immediately retreated on her own.
A mother I was to be
At the same time as Kashi
The king of two wives bestowed
With children as beautiful as a nalini.
When I heard the news of his wife
I came to her and brought her gifts
And she cut into me like a knife
For creating a rift in her heart.
On the day of Ganesh Chaturti,
My love for him would cost me much
Assassins went to kill me as they judged
My existance as trouble.
On that horror night,
Deewani Mastani
Had fought for her life
And almost got killed off,
If it weren’t for her husband’s faithful win
Thanks to Kashi and her golden heart
I grew to live another part
Of my love for Rao,
My beautiful Rao.
My passion for him as bright as always,
My heart of dancer beating in his motion
I sing and dance for him all days
And he chooses me as favourite emotion.
On a sacred day of married women
Kashi came to me and talked,
About our past, present, and future,
She belittled me and gave me offerings
Inviting me to join the feast
I said that, I am his soul
But she was his mind, and without her love, he could not love.
She thanked me for my kind words,
But pointed that I did,
The dance of love, the raasleela
She went down and started crying,
I went after and got her dancing
To get away our grudges and judges
We danced and sang and came to a conclusion
That it isn’t our fault we fell in love with an illusion
An illusion of a man that loves us
And us only.
I love my soul and
Am happy with my friend,
I enjoy my life in the court along my husband
And my child, a Muslim one.
But all of this would turn rotten
And my life will be forgotten.
My Rao went to war
A warrior lost in lore
And I was trapped within a prison
With my child that isn’t
Dark, or bad or just some evil
But it’s pure, and innocent and little.
I was tortured by his family
And imprisoned for my love,
He was fighting for his country
And fell ill because of fate,
As his one was one with mine,
2 strands of silk in a curvy line
Death and life from the divine
On a day when fate and time stood witness,
two star crossed lovers breathed their last.
They say witnessing a falling star
fulfils any wish,
but these two stars
fell to earth wishing, only to belong to each other.
And that is how we died
Me in chains and him in a fever,
2 souls in a game that lied.
Love should not be lived in pain
Even if you can gain
But who am I to be opposed
If my love is overexposed
My muslim heart shall beat for him
And his hindu one, shall do the same,
If we can love and be in love
Why are they trying to tear
Our lives that we are proud of
And only see the difference in air.
We are different only in god
Yet we are the same in his heart.
That is my story,
One of legends and myths
Some might call me stormy
And some might throw me in the pits
But here I am
A dancer in my heart
And that is who I am
The crazy Mastani
That you all love to judge
But why do you hold a grudge
Even when Kashi has accepted her misjudge.
I love him
And he loves me
We are one in god’s will and be.
I am Mastani,
Daughter of the sun,
I am his lover
A muslim one.
The poem was being written while listening to the songs: „Mohe rang do laal”, „Deewani Mastani”
