The Gods have always been among us, and they created the world as we know it today by simply being born. It’s barely a story with a start and an end, it just keeps writing itself as time irrefutably passes by.
From the farthest crack of dawn we can track down to the latest dusk, the Gods have never failed to leave our sides for a simple reason: they are people, just like you and I, that have loved something or someone more than they loved themselves.
It all probably started a very long time ago, with the first humans. They lived their lives normally, or as normally as a caveman could. Wake up, go hunt, make a fire. Keep the family and yourself safe. Love. They were yet to put a name on this feeling, but it was love they were feeling, because in order to survive, they needed something to keep them going. It was this feeling, burning like a hearth in their chests as they ate with their families huddled up for warmth, that made them Gods. They survived because they loved, and that’s maybe the last time the Gods were so numerous.
Centuries passed, many and many rolling over each other and blending together in a mixture of change and growth. But how much does growth mean now, when love has become something so downplayed? The modern man loves, but only as much as to not get hurt. The Gods are so few nowadays.
But they still exist. And they’re someone as simple as a middle school boy. He loves his parents, he loves his friends. But he absolutely loves football. He will go on to play football everyday after school or whenever he can. He will go on to dream big and score high, becoming one of the best football players in the world. If you were to ask this boy in middle school what his goal was, he’d say he “doesn’t know”, but as long as he’s got this thing he loves he knows he can do anything. That is love, and he is one of the Gods among us. When he walks past you, you can see him glow. There’s just something about him that radiates a peace of mind that can only be harboured through love, and you can’t help but be inspired by him to go do some loving of your own.
Gods still exist, and they can be someone as simple as a highschool girl who loved and got hurt by it. Oh, she loved so hard, and she was so excited to do so. But in the end she found out that love can be something fleeting, something that doesn’t ensure someone sticking by. She turned the love she once held for someone else, the love she once traded for empty words and meaningless promises, onto herself. She started feeling this love from within, and instead of projecting outwards on someone who she thought deserved it more than her, she let it course through her veins. She learned to love herself the most after she’s loved everybody else more her entire life, and now she feels free. Finally broken out of the shackles of needing to prove her worth to others. And now that highschool girl is a God, simply because the pain of loving didn’t bring her down like it did so many others.
Love is someone as simple as a human, so in love with life that love isn’t even something deep. Love is natural for this human, and it’s synonymous with “happiness”. This human finds love in the little things and even in the sad ones, because to suffer and to rise back from it means letting love heal all your wounds and trusting that it will do the same every time you need it.
Gods are everywhere and they are no different from other ordinary humans. And whoever is not currently a God can become one, as long as they let themselves experience the extent to which the human soul can feel.
