In the Beginning, there was an explosion, and the universe was created just like that—from the black space that had never truly been, because there wasn’t even such a thing as “black” or “space” back then, there was simply nothing.

In the Beginning, there was an explosion caused by the fiery force of the Unknown, who was so strong that she just couldn’t help herself. It was too lonely, too much for her to handle on her own: the thoughts. So, she gathered all her courage and tried to create— something that had never happened before. She sacrificed herself for the greater good, she exploded and divided herself into millions of pieces so there could be a universe, planets, and stars. She had a plan in mind, of course, otherwise, we wouldn’t be here. Each fragment of her being turned into something, all of them representing emotions she had bottled up all those years of staying alone in nothingness.

The Unknown created water, which symbolizes freedom and tranquility. The gentle flow of the rivers, the vastness of the oceans and the stillness of lakes reflects her longing for peace and escape from her own overwhelming thoughts. Fire, on the other hand, portrays passion, which had driven her into making beloved creations. Yet it also represents destruction if she is not careful enough with controlling her emotions, which might bring chaos and loss in their path. She developed plants because she felt the need to add beauty to the world— something pure that inspires her joy. They also express change because of the different stages they go through, whether seasonal ones or growth cycles, but also stability and security, due to their roots which are anchored so deep into the ground. Air was formed in need of excitement, the sudden chill you feel when wind passes through representing the thrill of living new experiences. Through their rough and solid structure and enduring nature, rocks represent strength and boldness symbolizing resilience and the ability to withstand challenges. Soil unites all of these creations, so in her perspective, it symbolizes connection and need of interaction with other beings, ambition and pride because she was able to create and reach the point that she is in now.

The one and only mistake the Unknown made was what she thought would be her last creation: the man. Because of that, all the rest of the pieces reached them— many more than they should have— and they gained a part of the consciousness that only the Unknown had. Humans started to think, to perceive, to judge. They were supposed to accompany the entity and to make her not feel so alone, to enjoy every aspect of her other inventions that surrounded them and to live long and happy lives. For some time it was just like that, until their unpredictable nature took over. The Unknown couldn’t understand how it reached this point, where she couldn’t understand her own creations. So, for her last one, she gathered a little bit of being from every man and made animals. They were quite like humans, inspired by them. They represent new and specific characteristics the Unknown observed men developed on their own and their true form— something they didn’t like to show in fear of judgement. A lot of them embodied negative and dark emotions like hatred, disgust, jealousy and even aggressiveness that the Unknown was both curious and demoralized by.

But what a mistake, to think men can live in harmony with other creatures. The Unknown’s loneliness, her desperation and disappointment in men’s behavior has given birth to the desire to feel something powerful that could save everything—love—but not the kind of love she felt for her creations, which had to do a little bit with pride; rather, it was a different kind—stronger and more intimate. So, she created two entities destined to be opposites, day and night, lightness and darkness, warmth and coldness: the Sun and the Moon. They were meant to love each other, that was their purpose on Earth: to chase after one another until they couldn’t resist their distance and the longing it brings with it anymore. She wanted them to do something about it, just like she did in the Beginning, she wanted them to destroy the world, to build it up again and to carry on her legacy once she couldn’t do it herself.

Despite everything she has created though, the Unknown remains unsure of her choice and feels the loneliness creeping back in.
